In Honor of India's 50th Independence Day

i will arise and go now
and go to india
and reminisce with my family 
about the bad times
and the good times

a greater knowledge 
of my ancestors' country
will i have there
a better understanding of my family

and i will live 
with my relatives 
in the country of india
and i shall have a real feeling of home
for this feeling comes
when the family is the environment

ascending 
is the blanket of night
towards the heavens
midnights are lively
and noon 
is the busy life of the country
and evening 
is a time of contemplation

i will arise now and go
and i will stay there
as long as i can
 
i hear my family
fondly conversing at home
while i stand
on the land
of a different world
a land far away
i hear it
in the deep heart's core.
