Q1. What is this document?
A1.
This is the Dawoodi-Bohras Mailing List FAQ (Frequently
Asked Questions). It tells you about a mailing list
called 'dawoodi-bohras'.
Q2. What is the purpose of the list 'dawoodi-bohras'?
A2.
This mailing list was created exclusively for Dawoodi
Bohras to foster stronger bonds and facilitate
communication with each other and for the zikr of
al-Dai al-Fatimi, Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS).
This forum exists to encourage subscribers to share their
views and experiences and get to know each other through
the e-mail medium. It also helps subscribers stay in touch
with community events and news. World-wide membership is
expected to reach over a thousand in 1998.
Q3. How do I subscribe to/unsubscribe from the list?
A3.
To subscribe, send an e-mail to:
-> dawoodi-bohras-subscribe@mumineen.org
To subscribe to the digest version of this list,
send an e-mail to:
-> dawoodi-bohras-digest-subscribe@mumineen.org
To unsubscribe from either list, send an e-mail to:
-> dawoodi-bohras-unsubscribe@mumineen.org
OR
-> dawoodi-bohras-digest-unsubscribe@mumineen.org
as appropriate. If you subscribe to the digest list
instead of the main one, you will be sent each day's
messages compiled into one e-mail. This is called a 'digest'.
Q4. What is acceptable as posts to the list?
A4.
The mailing list 'dawoodi-bohras' is informal and fun-
oriented, but this does not mean you can post anything.
This forum is moderated. Posts with the following
characteristics will be blocked by the list moderators:
1) Any mail against the Dawat and Aqa Maula (TUS).
Originators of such messages will be removed.
2) Flaming or any material deemed offensive by the
moderators.
3) Junk mail (including jokes, chain mail, ASCII art,
virus hoaxes).
4) Messages that are personal in nature.
Also, messages with excessive included text and replies,
non-ASCII text (ie. HTML which is incompatible with many
email programs), large file attachments, terse subject
lines, and other violations of standard Netiquette &
our limited bandwidth resources may be rejected at the
moderators' discretion.
Further, if a thread degenerates into a personal exchange
between a small number of people, they may be asked to
continue their discussion off-line.
Q5. What is the subject heading requirement all about?
A5.
To help subscribers identify the content of a post
without opening it, a regimented use of subject
headings is mandated. If a post to the mailing list
does not have one of the following prefixes in the
subject line, it may be rejected and the originator will
receive a message on how to use the recommended prefixes.
Following are the recommended subject line prefixes:
[AKHBAR] (news of Aqa Maula [TUS])
[DEEN] (religious questions, essays, etc)
[QUERY] (inquiries for information, contacts)
[BUSINESS] (jobs, businesses, opportunities, etc.)
[SOCIAL] (personal intros, announcements, etc.)
[NEWS] (current events, news, etc.)
[POLITICS] (discussions about politics)
[SCIENCE] (discussions about science)
[SPORTS] (discussions about sports)
[MATRIMONIAL] (see Q6 below)
Please be sure to include the brackets [] as well!
Other headings may be added as needed.
Therefore, posts to the list should have subject
headings such as:
-> Subject: [AKHBAR] Aqa Maula (TUS) arrival in Bombay
-> Subject: Re: [NEWS] Princess Diana's death
Q6. What is the proper usage for the MATRIMONIAL subject heading?
A6.
The MATRIMONIAL heading is to be used solely for sharing
information about individuals who are seeking propective
spouses. Because of the extremely sensitive nature of
this information, each MATRIMONIAL message should adhere
to a recommended set of guidelines.
The Subject line should contain only the following
information about the person seeking a partner in
addition to the MATRIMONIAL subject header:
- gender
- age
- city
The Body of the message should contain the following
useful information:
1) information about the person seeking a partner
* age, gender, etc.
* geographic location
* education and titles
* further qualifications, interests
etc.
2) desired attributes in a prospective partner
* age
* interests
etc.
3) email address for further contact
To maintain privacy for the individual, do NOT include
the name, first or last, nor any other unique
identifying information. Any mesg that reveals this
information will be rejected to protect the privacy of
the individual.
For example, a typical (and likely successful) message would be:
___
"Subject: [MATRIMONIAL] male, age 27, Leceister
male, 27 years old from Leceister UK, with MS in
computer science from MIT (1995), title of mullah
given by Huzurala TUS in Mombasa 1416H.
enjoys bungee jumping, sky diving, seeks athletic
medical student between ages 23-27. Please send email
to unreal@biodata.net for further correspondence."
___
Note that any message that does not sufficiently meet
these suggestions may be rejected, at NextGen discretion.
Q7. How are mubarakbadi messages moderated?
A7.

because of the usual high volume of such messages, to
conserve bandwidth NextGen reserves the right to reject
mubarakbadis that are sent two days after the event or
occassion has begun.
Q8. How do I obtain a list of current members?
A8.

retrieve the list of current members to the list.
